February 14th. The day of love and chocolate and flowers.
Did you know that Canadians will spend about 1.5 BILLION (!) dollars to celebrate this day!?? I sure didn't.
George Stroumboulopoulos has put together an article on ethical "valentining," because many of the treats we enjoy, like chocolate, may actually be exploiting people across the globe. And, if this post comes a bit late, the bug is in your ear for next year :)
An Ethical Valentine's Day- Strombo
What's happening in my classroom:
ELA 10: We are doing some writing about human rights.
ELA 30: We should be wrapping up "The Crucible" this week. A socratic seminar will be happening on Thursday or Friday. A test will likely be given on Friday.
History 30: We are studying the beginnings of colonization. We are learning about Cartier and other Europeans who claimed North America for France and England.
History 10: We are studying the social structures of the Iroquois Confederacy. Presentations must be ready to go either Thursday or Friday (TBA).
Soundtrack for the day:
what's a fella to do? 'cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue...
