ELA 7- Voices of the Past

During this unit, we will be examining voices of the past (and present!) to explore what impact the Residential School system has had on First Nations and non-First Nations people. We will begin creating connections between history and the present to hopefully understand how important it is to understand that what has happened before us shapes how we live our lives today.

To begin our learning, let's explore this website called "Where are the Children." Please jot down any striking information or questions you may have as you read, view, listen and learn!

Science 7- Our quest for answers!

Hey grade 7 students! My science bunch has been asking several thought provoking questions...many I do not have the answers for. But that's okay, we can figure them out with just a wee bit of research! The internet is so helpful :)

So, one of the questions we have is: what is the hottest temperature ever created by scientists?

Take a guess!

a) 6000 degrees Celsius
b) 25,000 degrees Celsius
c) 1 million degrees Celsius
d) 4 trillion degrees Celsius

Michael Pollan & Deconstructing What We Think We Know About Our Food

We think we know our food- grocery stores, farms, gardens... But there is a lot more to our food system than that! Michael Pollan is known for his research in understanding what makes our 'food go 'round'- where it comes from, what it's made of, how it's grown, how it's processed, and how it ends up in our grocery stores and on our plates. He has a ton of knowledge, and from this, he has developed a set of 'food rules' - a set of guidelines which he believes we need to follow to maintain or improve our health.

Read- as you read, annotate your text with wonderings, questions, surprising information, new learning, comments, etc.

Show understanding- illustrate the four food systems Pollan describes.

Apply knowledge- go through the lab's pantry and fridge. Which products contain corn or corn by-products? (Select a random sample of 10 products)

Analyze-
